Apéritif Fridays

The wait is over, after much deliberation I have settled on a late night Friday residency. Its a sly little Parisian bar gig that Im sure has the right flava for the connoisseurs palette. For those not familiar with Aperitif, it serves up a ridiculously good and somewhat out of this world modern French-Mediterranean cuisine (until the wee hours of the morn...) After you work your way through the restaurant you'll find yourself in a cozy, dope-a-licious back bar, where you will also find me loungin' on my arse laying out smooth nu funk, neo soul, dope beats.

To paint a mental picture of Aperitif, think L'otel circa 90's... yes, the hedonistic den of late night pleasures, thats what were talking. Aperitif comes with all the L'otel trimmings, Elie, Christian Caruana and me... oh yeah, great wine, superb food, music and comfort. What more can I offer?

The joint is open from 6pm and I'm there from 11pm to 3am

Track List:
Intro: Jean-Francois Ponthieux
1. Much too Much - Brigette
2. At Last - Nu Life

8. All This Love Im Givin - Leah McRae
9. Gonna Get Over You (Rishi Rich remix) - Beverlei Brown
10. Magic - Robin Thicke
11. Heart of Glass(93 til Infinity remix) - Blondie

The Rio De Janeiro carnival opened up this weekend - and as I always like to do at this time of the year, I like to celebrate this time by playing some of my favourite Brazilian jams and recent acquisitions. It constantly astounds me just how much incredible music came out of Brazil in 70’s and early 80’s - So here is a selection of some very infectious Samba Soul, Black Rio, Bossa, Battucada, and a taste of the Funk Carioca sound of Rio’s favelas from more recent times. Enjoy..

AMIRA - Summer Soulstice Mix

So my girl Amira put this together for the Groove Therapy podcast.. Personally I think it's a little too good to be lost amongst the Groove Therapy archives, so here it is on Soulshaker. And while I might just be a little bit bias, I think the track listing speaks for itself. Infact, there were even a couple of tunes that I had to plead for her to tell me what they were. She even tried to get all secret squirrel on me. Well, now I've posted her tracklist all over the internets for everyone to bite her steeze - that'll learn her!

SS DJs Support Breakestra @ Becks bar

If ya a regular to this blog, you know your funk and you'd know Breakestra, so I guess Breakestra dont need no introduction. The gig dont need no selling either as its already sold out. The good news is that SoulShaker djs are the local support. Gimme a woop woop! We are playing before, in the middle & at the end of Breakestra.

To get ya in the mood Iv just laid a furious funk 45 mix. They're all original 45's cut in the same vein & style of what you'll expect to hear from Breakestra. Hell, I may even drop a few of these at the gig.

I start the set off with a sweet soul number that fellow Stones Throw recording artist Mayer Hawthorne recently covered. For a white boy, he did a sterling job at covering this 1969 gem. I hope you dig it.

Track listing
1. New Holidays - Maybe So Maybe No.
2. Ruby & The Party Gang - Hey Ruby (Shut your mouth).
3. The Electric Express - It's The Real Thing. pt 1.
4. Benny Sharp & the Sharpies - Music (I Like it) pt 2.
5. Hot Line - How Funky Do You Do. pt 1.
6. Kal feat Mr Tee - The Boogies Here.
7. Jonathan - No Place Like Home.
8. Chase - Get it on.
9. Ballin' Jack - Super Highway.
10. Arthur Conley - Funky Street.
11. Hank Ballard - Come On Wit' It.
12. Poison - Let Me Lay My Funk On You.
13. C and The Shells - Funky Tamborine. pt 2.
14. Monica - Freedom
